The RTL English Curriculum is comprised of 15 learning levels. These levels offer a total of 600 student workbooks, 4000 worksheets and 12,500 teaching notes that you can use to teach your child from 3 to 18 years old. Each level offers up to 36 lessons (& weeks) of teaching. You can teach the lessons as fast or slow as you like.

Level 11 : Learning Overview

LEVEL 11 – Upper Intermediate Stage
Suitable for children aged 13 to 14 years old
Objectives of this level:

  • Difficult Words – Presentation Skills – Story Writing – Comprehension
  • Prepare students for Cambridge & Trinity Exams

 

Course Description:
The Student will be taught to recall details, sequence, make inferences, analyse information, predict outcomes and use contextual clues. In addition, they will be taught to enhance written text with feelings and emotions. They will be taught to change poetry into prose, as well as write advertisements & stories. Language practice continues with using and understanding idioms, suffixes, prefixes; as well as writing & using conversational gambits. Grammar concentrates on the tenses especially past tense and perfect tense. Conditionals are also revised along with prepositions etc. Correct pronunciation is emphasised, as is rising and falling intonation.

Preparation for Cambridge University’s First Certificate of English (FCE) & Trinity Spoken tests
Level 11 prepares students for the Cambridge University’s First Certificate of English (FCE) & Trinity Spoken tests. FCE is for people who can use everyday written and spoken English at an upper-intermediate level.


CAMBRIDGE FCE TEST

  • Cambridge vocabulary – ‘Learning’ Activities – Writing Practise – Quiz lessons – Revision lessons

 

TRINITY COLLEGE SPOKEN

  • Initial Stage :: G4 to G6 – Trinity GESE vocabulary – Quiz lessons – Revision lessons.

Speaking Goals:

  • Ask and answers instructional questions with more extensive supporting elements.
  • Use language confidently to respond thoughtfully to others opinions.
  • Discuss the topics as a group and ask questions of each other.
  • Learn the material thoughtfully with the aim of giving a presentation to the group.
  • Increase confidence.

Listening Goals:

  • The topics are of a more global nature including environmental issues with new and different vocabulary.
  • Some of the issues are current and controversial so the students has to listen, understand and discuss to form personal opinions.
  • There are 16 new topics to discuss, debate and present.
  • Again the student will be asked listen to recorded voices on CD (a much more difficult task than that requires practice) and to give their own opinion.
  • Suffixes and prefixes improve pronunciation and spelling and the use of idioms.

Writing Goals:

  • Continuous improvement for writing skills including writing advertisements, descriptions of pictures and stories. Language practice continues with using and understanding idioms, suffixes, prefixes, and writing and conversational gambits.

Grammar Goals:

  • This concentrates on the tenses especially past tense and perfect tense. Conditionals are also revised along with prepositions etc.

Reading Goals:

  • Read and follow the instructions of each page.
  • Read and understand the information on the topic pages.
  • Read and forecast events in the Story and answer the comprehension questions.
  • The story has many twists and turns, with the plot becoming more complicated. The language is more sophisticated with more words to one page.
  • Time is given for group discussion and analysis of the characters and the situation.
  • New words: pronunciation – explanation – definitions re: context.
